The Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law (OGERL) Section of the State Bar of Texas was established in 1938 as the "Natural Resources Section" and is the oldest section of the State Bar of Texas. The Section is one of the largest and most active in the State Bar, with more than 2,000 members.

Our Mission

The Section is dedicated to promoting the objectives of the State Bar of Texas by gathering, improving and analyzing existing laws related to oil, gas and energy resources to keep the members of the State Bar of Texas advised in that respect. The section may correspond and cooperate with similarly oriented committees or sections of the American Bar Association, other State Bar organizations and similar organizations.

Section Profile

The Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas publishes a quarterly Newsletter for all Section members. The section sponsors three major legal seminars each year: The Advanced Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law Course, co-sponsored with the Professional Development Program of the State Bar of Texas, and the Annual Ernest E. Smith Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law Institute and the Annual Gas and Power Institute, both of which are co-sponsored by the University of Texas School of Law. The section also sponsors a variety of other projects designed to serve our members and the Bar. Additional information concerning these projects will be available as this website is updated in the coming months.
